That’s what everyone is really looking for, the base line, the one truth without exceptions.  The one truth that would never change no matter which series of choices is taken, no matter what alternate reality is pursued.  It’s the common denominator that transcends every possible future and every possible past.  That’s what every person in the world is looking for whether they know it or not.

It’s the reason kings feel small, the rich feel empty, smart people feel dumb and dumb people feel desperate.  It’s because they all missed the reason for their existence.  They are all in the same boat despite the superficial yardstick they use to measure themselves to try to feel special.

Natasha Kern (antagonist)

The temperature rose and my teeth drew tight.  My stomach flipped.  My eyes drew a bead on Craig.  I pushed my anger down with a cold swallow that brought goose-bumps to my sweaty arms.  That quickly I harnessed it.  It was mine to steer.  It was the drive I needed to put me over the top.  I would get Craig.  There was no doubt in my mind now about the outcome.

That hate was more pure, more noble, than the hate that killed Bobby Rainerd.  I set it down on the round table with reason, logic, vengeance, and righteous indignation to talk about slaying the offender.
